Homerun Nievera, WED | While everyone else in the metro were in a long slumber, the big boss of Multisys, Dave Almirol, was up and about spending his morning with the UP Varsity Chess Team.
Almirol received the UP Varsity Chess Team in his sprawling Google-like campus in Multinational Village in Parañaque to express his support. His company Multisys is sponsoring the UP wood pushers this UAAP season.
In his younger years, Almirol revealed that playing chess was his favorite mind game. “In a way, chess has influenced the way I think in terms of business strategies today. You may say that the anticipation of winning in my business has something to do with my patiently-crafted victories learned through playing chess,” said Almirol.
Atty. Roy Ibay of Smart, who’s son Ryan is in the UP Varsity Chess Team, introduced Almirol to the team. Atty. Ibay, who knew Almirol in business circles, learned of Multisys’ heart for sports as the company recently announced its sponsorship of Liga Adarna, the first all-female esports tournament in the Philippines.
Multisys has pledged cash and logistical support to the UP Varsity Chess Team. Senior Coach and International Master Ronald Bancod said, “We’re very thankful to Sir Dave for sponsoring the team. Corporate sponsors like Multisys are good examples of good corporate stewardship as they help grassroots sports in the Philippines flourish.”
The UP Varsity Chess Team is poised to make a run for the championship in the UAAP Season 82 this year. The team is ready and grateful to its sponsors like Multisys.
That’s Saturday well spent.
