WorldExecutivesDigest | Why Its Important To Be More Eco-Friendly! | Sustainability and how we can help the earth is a popular topic for many of us, with more people going out of their way to ensure they’re doing their best to help our planet and reduce the damage caused by pollution and harmful gasses. With homes all over the world becoming more conscious of this, businesses are beginning to follow suit, creating packaging for food, like takeaway coffee cups and takeaway salad boxes that are sustainable and eco-friendly. But what does this really mean?

What do we mean by ‘eco-friendly’?

Being eco-friendly means leading a lifestyle that does not cause harm to our environment. You may be familiar with ‘sustainability’ and ‘environmentally-friendly’ which are terms that are also commonly used to refer to the same issue. Sustainability refers to the types of materials and resources that we use and means being aware of and trying not to deplete the earth’s natural resources. Eco-friendly simply means being more kind to our planet.

These are all terms that go hand in hand with each other and are subjects that a lot of us are becoming more familiar with – and with good reason! Read on to find out more on why it is important to be more eco-friendly.

Creates less waste

Making the change to become more eco-friendly means that we can create less waste. Our population is growing rapidly, which means we are producing huge amounts of waste as a result. Whether that’s physical waste like litter, plastic, food, or energy and water, it all contributes to the destruction of our planet. Producing physical waste means more of our rubbish ends up in landfill sites, meaning it will pollute our earth for many years into the future – even after we’re gone! Choosing reusable alternatives, or products that are made from sustainable materials can have a positive impact.

Wasting energy by leaving lights and appliances on and taps running when we aren’t using them contributes to our carbon footprint and means we are producing harmful gasses that also contribute to pollution. Wasting less energy means you can help save our planet.

Helps the planet

You may not realise it but choosing to make the change to an eco-friendlier lifestyle can have a positive impact on our planet, every little helps! We can change the outcome that may be awaiting our planet if we continue to pollute and create waste by making small changes in our day-to-day lives. For example, choosing to drive an electric car means you’re doing your bit to stop polluting the air with harmful gas, or choosing to switch to a reusable water bottle means that you’re reducing your use of plastic which would otherwise have ended up in a landfill. Small changes can make for a healthier planet and a happier life.

Improves health

There are many ways in which becoming more eco-friendly can have a positive impact on your health. Choosing to reduce food waste and eat more organically means your diet is likely to be more nutritious and packed with vitamins and minerals, this also eradicates the need for unnecessary packaging. Choosing to walk or cycle instead of using the car means you can get a bit of exercise into your day and become more physically active.

It is advantageous for our health to become more eco-friendly as this would mean a decrease in chemicals from cars and other vehicles that are not only harmful to the planet but harmful to us as well. Planting more trees and creating more green space free of cars means we can benefit from clean, fresh air for our bodies and minds.
